A flamboyant footballer of the sixties and seventies with the likes of Sheffield United, Chelsea and Leicester City, 'The Birch' has spent over 40 years in the game he loves with a passion.
He started his professional career with the Blades in 1963 and made his league debut a year later, winning two of his four England Under-23 caps whilst at Bramall Lane.
The Birch was amongst the first players to command a £100,000 price tag when he moved from Sheffield United to Chelsea in November 1967.
After three years at Chelsea, he joined Crystal Palace and led their scoring list in his first season at Selhurst Park.
The Foxes paid £80,000 for him in 1971, and he remained at Filbert Street until signing for Notts County in 1977.
Now an integral part of the Foxes Staff, Birch has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for nominated charities over the years.
In 2002 he was awarded an MBE for his charity work.
