ALL BLACKS GREAT SIGNS UP TO ENDORSE SOL2009

New Zealand legend Jonah Lomu gave a ringing endorsement of next year’s GB National Summer Games by signing the coveted Special Olympics Leicester supporter flag.

The former All Black winger, who notched 37 tries in 63 caps for his country, joined fellow sporting personalities such as Portsmouth and England goalkeeper David James, snooker star Mark Selby and South African cricket coach Mickey Arthur in signing the flag ahead of the Games which take place in Leicester between 25-31 July 2009.

Lomu said: “The Special Olympics athletes work incredibly hard on their fitness and skill just like anyone who competes at a high level. Come July the National Summer Games in Leicester should be a great event, and I wish the best of luck to everyone competing.”

Held every four years, the Special Olympics GB National Summer Games will attract over 2,700 athletes, 1,200 coaches, 1,500 volunteers and 6,000 families to the City of Leicester. 20,000 spectators are expected to watch the Games across a number of major venues in the region.
