SPECIAL OLYMPICS LEICESTER ATHLETES AND AMBASSADORS CELEBRATE 50 DAYS TO GO

Today the City of Leicester will celebrate the 50 day countdown to Special Olympics GB National Summer Games Leicester 2009, with Leicester City legend Alan Birchenall and a host of learning disabled athletes at the Riverside Festival, Bede Park.

Alan will be taking centre stage with a number of Special Olympics athletes and Chairman Ted Cassidy to let the crowds know that the National Summer Games are coming to Leicester in just 50 days time. To find out how you can support the learning disabled athletes get along to the main stage between 2:30pm – 3:00pm.

The organising committee will be on hand to remind Riverside Festival goers that tickets to the Opening Ceremony are on sale now. The Opening Ceremony will host a range of carnival and unique performances commissioned especially for this one off event, involving hundreds of people from the East Midlands bringing the stadium to life.

Steve Humphries, Special Olympics Leicester Games Director, said: “With only fifty days to go this is a great chance to allow the athletes to meet with local people and update them on the Games coming to the City in July. Having our ambassador Alan Birchenall at one of Leicester’s largest outdoor festivals will be a real treat for the local community and Special Olympics athletes.”

Alan Birchenall, Special Olympics Leicester ambassador, added: “I’m delighted to be able to help raise awareness of the Games coming to Leicester in July, this is a great opportunity for others to learn about this world class event and find out how they can show their support for Special Olympics athletes, who have taken time out of their busy training schedules to come along today. ”

Adults: (Over 16’s) £5.00 per person
Children:  (Under 16’s) £1.00 per child (only available with a purchase of one adult ticket)
Concessions: £3.00 per person
 
Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased from the Leicester City Football Club ticket office through to Saturday, July 25th 2009.
