ALL BLACKS STARS SIGN UP TO ENDORSE SOL2009
New Zealand captain Richie McCaw and star fly-half Dan Carter today gave a ringing endorsement of next year’s GB National Summer Games by signing the coveted Special Olympics Leicester supporter flag.
The All Blacks stars, preparing for their upcoming Test match at Twickenham against England, joined fellow sporting personalities such as Portsmouth and England goalkeeper David James, snooker star Mark Selby and South African cricket coach Mickey Arthur in signing the flag ahead of the Games which take place in Leicester between 25-31 July 2009.
Dan Carter said: “The Special Olympics athletes work incredibly hard on their fitness and skill just like us or anyone who competes at a high level. Come July the National Summer Games in Leicester should be a great event, and I wish the best of luck to everyone competing.”
Held every four years, the Special Olympics GB National Summer Games will attract over 2,700 athletes, 1,200 coaches, 1,500 volunteers and 6,000 families to the City of Leicester. 20,000 spectators are expected to watch the Games across a number of major venues in the region.
