Ted Cassidy MBE
The Special Olympics National Summer Games is a fantastic event and I am so proud that they are coming to our growing, diverse and exciting city for the second time. Leicester has a strong sporting heritage and everybody in the city and county can't wait for the games to get under way and become the best summer games ever. As soon as the Special Olympics athletes enter the City, they will know that something special is happening for them. Good luck to all those involved.

Steve Humphries, Games Director
As Games Director this year is going to frantic but also one of the most exciting periods of my life. I was personally inspired by London winning the 2012 Olympic Games, so working with city leaders we entered the bid to bring the Olympic spirit, excitement and optimism to Leicestershire.
Leicester is going through a major period of regeneration covering performing arts, shopping, culture and redevelopments in the city centre. The Special Olympics provides a unique opportunity to showcase the new, ‘one Leicester’ to the UK and especially the many visitors who will descend upon the city in 2009. I look forward to the city welcoming the athletes, their families and supporters to the National Summer Games.
