Monday 27th April 2009
A huge thank you to Leicester City FC legend Alan Birchenall who completed his annual charity run at the last LCFC home game of the season against Scunthorpe United on Friday 24 April. It was an incredible effort by The Birch who completed over 50 laps for his chosen charities.
SOL was one of three charities who will receive monies from the run, split as follows - Special Olympics Leicester 2009 will receive 50%, NHS Trust 25% and Everyman (testicular cancer) 25%.
Prior to a special half-time edition of the "Crossbar Challenge" involving Foxes legends Muzzy Izzet and Steve Walsh, Lee Penfold, SOL athlete and Games Director Steve Humphries were interviewed by ambassador Alan Birchenall on-pitch to gather his thoughts on the National Summer Games.
A thank you also to the volunteers who supported the collection and gave up some time on their Friday to support SOL.
We will announce the total raised on SOL enews next week.
