On Thursday 14th May, the Lord Mayor of Leicester, Councillor Manjula Sood and Solly the Lion will be meeting students Lord Mayor and Solly will be at the King Richard III School between 1pm and 3pm ahead of the July games.
‘SO Let’s Learn’ is a resource pack for teachers to inspire and educate Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland students and pupils about the Special Olympics and the Games coming to the city. The pack will be available to 500 schools and colleges across the city of Leicester and the county for the start of the Easter term 2009. The pack has been delivered in partnership with Special Olympics Leicester organizing committee, Leicester City Council’s Sports Services Free Swims for Children initiative, the Lord Mayor’s Appeal and the School
Development Support Agency.
The pack contains a variety of lesson activities across all subjects for all ages, Special Olympics themed days with sports events, competitions, assembly ideas and posters. In addition to the educational element and background to the Games, the pack will promote the key values of Special Olympics, which include fairness, tolerance, teamwork and respect, leaving a lasting legacy from the Games in the city.
