As part of the city’s SOL Let’s Celebrate cultural programme on route to welcoming the Special Olympics 2009 back to Leicester for the second time, the Lions Clubs of Leicestershire and Rutland have joined forces with the Bardi Wind Orchestra to stage a charity concert at De Montfort Hall Leicester on Saturday 27th June 2009.
The evening of inspirational music will feature a number of sporting classics including Chariots of Fire, Nessun Dorma, Bolreo, the Olympic fanfare and theme and many more.
All monies raised by the concert will be donated to the Special Olympics 2009, Leicester Appeal.
SOL Games Director, Steve Humphries said: “This fantastic charity event put together by the Lions Clubs and Bardi Wind Orchestra demonstrates how important the Special Olympics Games are to the city and how sport and music working in unison can bring people from all walks of life together to celebrate a truly Olympics occasion.”
David Swanson, spokesperson for Leicestershire & Rutland Lions Clubs, said: “Lions Clubs from all over the world have been involved in supporting the Special Olympics movement in every country and in particular with supporting the National Games. This support is not only in raising funds but also in the daily work of running and stewarding the events, but also to ensure that both competitors and visitors get maximum enjoyment from their time at the Special Olympics. Everyone is so excited about the Games returning back to the Leicester for the second time and are ready to roar on all the Special Olympics GB athletes to success”.
