Olympic Awareness Day - 23rd June 2008
Students from all of the city's special schools and community day centres have been invited to take part in a day of sport to mark International Olympic Day on Monday, 23rd June 2008. The event will take place at Saffron Lane Sports Stadium, from 11.00 am - 2.30 pm. John Duggan of Ellesmere College said: 'this 'come and have a go' event will enable around 250 children and young people to join together and try out sporting activities. They will also get the chance to experience the Olympic movement's values of personal excellence, respect and friendship, and we hope ultimately, to capture their interest and enthusiasm in sport and physical activity'.
The day will also feature sporting demonstrations by some of Leicestershire's top Paralympic stars, East Midlands' Special Olympics athletes, and appearances by other local sporting celebrities. These will include Jayant Mistry, Leicester's Paralympic tennis champion.
